Event description

🧬 Are you interested in learning next-generation sequencing technologies? Do you want to know more about the bioinformatics?

📯 Our Student Branch and our EMB Student Club are hosting a workshop to familiarize us with technologies widely applied to biological research. The event is available only to IEEE members.

The main speaker of the workshop is Mr. Kardaras Phillipos. A short bio notice is following:

Philippos Kardaras is a PhD candidate in the Department of Computer Science and Biomedical Informatics – University of Thessaly. The topic of his PhD thesis is “Algorithms for the analysis of the human microbiome in physiological and pathological situations”. He has graduated from the Department of Biology of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. He has also completed the postgraduate program entitled “Computer Applications in Medicine and Biology” of the Department of Informatics and Telecommunications of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens.

Workshop content

An introduction to next-generation sequencing technologies widely used in biological research. The attendees will further learn how they can find data from such experiments on the web and how they can analyze them to study gene expression.
