George K. Karagiannidis is currently Professor in the Electrical & Computer Engineering Dept. and Head of Wireless Communications Systems Group (WCSG). He is also Honorary Professor at South West Jiaotong University, Chengdu, China. His research interests fall in the broad area of Digital Communications Systems and Signal Processing, with emphasis on Wireless Communications, Optical Wireless Communications, Wireless Power Transfer and Communications & Signal Processing for Biomedical Engineering. He has been involved as General Chair, Technical Program Chair and member of Technical Program Committees in several IEEE and non-IEEE conferences. In the past, he was Editor in several IEEE journals and from 2012 to 2015 he was the Editor-in Chief of IEEE Communications Letters. Currently, he serves as Associate Editor-in Chief of IEEE Open Journal of Communications Society. Dr. Karagiannidis is IEEE Fellow and has been recognized from Clarivate Analytics as Web-of-Science Highly Cited Researcher in the five consecutive years 2015-2019.
Athanasios G. Kanatas, is a Professor at the Department of Digital Systems, University of Piraeus, Greece. He has published more than 200 papers in international journals and conference proceedings. He is the author of 6 books in the field of wireless and satellite communications. He has been the technical manager of several European and National R&D projects. His current research interests include the development of new waveforms and digital techniques for next generation wireless systems; wireless channel characterization and modeling; antenna design and array beamforming for next generation wireless systems; V2V communications and cybersecurity issues for V2V communications. He has been a Senior Member of IEEE since 2002. In 1999, he was elected Chairman of the Communications Society of the Greek Section of IEEE. From 2013 to 2017, he has served as Dean of ICT School of the University of Piraeus, Greece.
Maria Boura is the Director of Government & Industry Relations & Innovation at Ericsson Hellas. Maria is a senior Ericsson spokesperson and prominent speaker at industry conferences and events on matters of thought leadership in technology, in Greece and abroad. With a background in Physics and a specialization in Electronics and Telecommunications, she started her career in R&D and has held several leadership positions since, in different functions (Sales, Marketing, Strategy etc.) in the ICT industry, mostly in multi-customer, multi-country environment. She has lived and worked in Greece and abroad and speaks four languages. Prior to Ericsson, Maria has worked at Intracom S.A. and at the Hellenic National Centre for Scientific Research Demokritos. Maria is passionate about startups and about promoting more women in leadership positions and in STEM. Her contribution in the Greek market has been recently recognized with the “Executive Woman of the Year” award on the occasion of the 25 years of mobile communications in Greece.
Ioannis Tomkos is Professor of Optical Communications at the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering of the University of Patras, Greece. Currently his research is focusing on the use of optical communications for 5G/6G networks and datacenter interconnects. In the past he held many academic and industry positions in various countries around the world (e.g. USA, Spain, Cyprus, Italy and Greece). His Research Group was/is involved in over 25 EU-funded research projects with a consortium-wide leading role. In 2018, Dr. Tomkos was elected a Fellow of IEEE “for contributions in Dynamic Optical Networks”. He is also a Fellow of the IET (2010) and a Fellow of the “Optical Society” (2012). Together with his colleagues and students he has co-authored over 650 peer-reviewed archival articles, including over 150 Journal/Magazine/Book publications, which have received over 9750 citations (h-factor=47).
Periklis Chatzimisios serves as Professor in the Department of Science and Technology of the International Hellenic University (Greece). He is a Visiting Fellow in Bournemouth University (UK). He is the Chair of the Communications Chapter and Professional Activities for the IEEE Greece Section and also serves as the Chair of ComSoc Technical Committee on Information Infrastructure and Networking (TCIIN), the Vice Chair of ComSoc Technical Committee on Big Data (TCBD) and an active member of the IEEE Future Networks (5G) Initiative. He is the EiC for the IEEE Standards Education e-Magazine (eZine) and a member of the IEEE Standards Education Committee (SEC), the Standards Program Development Board, the Education Services Board and the Industry Outreach Board under IEEE Communication Society (ComSoc).
