The 109th IEEE Region 8 Committee Meeting was held in Sydney on 10-11 of August 2017, during the IEEE Sections Congress. Representatives from most Region 8 Sections participated to the meeting. Greece delegate was Athanasios Kakarountas (Vice-Chair, Greece IEEE Section).
The meeting was hosted at the Sydney International Convention Center, located in the heart of Darling Harbour, and one of Sydney’s attraction a visitor can see and visit.
For the Greece IEEE Section, that was a unique moment, since it was officially announced that the 110th IEEE Region 8 Committee Meeting will be held in Athens in early Spring 2018 (March the most probable). This is a great honor for us, that is to host distinguished volunteers who serve the IEEE mission and vision in Region 8.
Moreover, a pleasant surprise for our Section occurred when the winners of the IEEE R8 Mind the Gap Competition (MtG) were presented, and at the first place a Greek team was announced, namely Audi-o-Mentia comprised of students from the University of Thessaly and the University of Piraeus.
